Other toy's pt 3

With their Rally heritage and cool looks we do love a Saab here at the OOC.
The engine is a transversely mounted, water-cooled two-cylinder, two-stroke 764 cc, 25 hp (19 kW) engine based on a DKW design, giving a top speed of 105 kilometres per hour.
The transmission has three gears, the first being unsynchronised. In order to overcome the problems of oil starvation during overrun, a freewheel device was fitted. Suspension is by torsion bars.

Cooling rings!

Over the winter the Skunwerks dept of the OOC have been working on some top secret projects!
As many of you have seen we already fitted the '51 Porsche cooling rings to a set of Split Beetle drums, then machined out the inside of the drum to accept the later 40mm brake shoes.
Going one further with this project, we thought it easier just to make profiles and have the cooling rings cast directly onto new 40mm front drums.
The form's are now made, in all 3 profiles; 356 '51, 356 PreA and A and 356B.
Just off the the casters now.....
Watch this space for the update :D

St. Rose's School car show "wheel nuts"

A small group of OOC members attended a local classic car show in some of their "other vehicles". An annual event to raise funds for this school that provides support for pupils with special educational needs.

We do love some original paint and sign writing! :D

Also in attendance was this 50s Chevy pickup
It had a note in the window "WANTED single man with a large garage!"

Nice day for Splits!

As the weather was fantastic we took a trip to a couple of friends to check out their Splits.
The Azure Blue one we have never seen before and it was a really nice patina solid Split, already in preparation for the Petermax Müller Rennen next year to H.O.
The Green one was just in fresh paint and being prepared also for H.O. 2017.

Out & About

As our Norwegian friends were visiting and the weather was good, the '46 got an outing.
What better way to spend a spring day than vintage driving with friends in the '46.....

Norwegian Inspection!

We had a visit from some of our Norwegian friends this week and while they were staying they checked out the work being done on the '51.
 Mmmmm, did it pass inspection?

'51 Progress pt 2

As work continues on the '51 it was thought a trip speedo would be a great addition, so the original speedo was converted into one...

Still empty

After the departure of Der Brummbär there is still an empty parking space, what will take the parking place?

An extra pair of hands!

With work full steam ahead we needed more hands for holding things, so we dug out the Hazet Assistent from the back of the workshop. A perfect helper to hold things...

Swedish Abarth Split

Great article about last years Petermax Müller Gedächtnis Rennen in this issue of Let's Play VWs magazine.
Flying the flag and always pushing the envelope for the Oldtimer Oldspeed Club is our very own Herr Dunkelmann and his Swedish Abarth Split.
As always fantastic photos by the one and only Shin Watanabe :D

'51 Progress pt 1

Once we had dug the '51 out of the leafs and got it back to the workshop the bodywork wasn't as bad as originally thought.
It does need the usually pan halves, heater channels and some work at the front but overall a very solid spilt. :)
